BROADBAND
Broadband is the short form of the Broadband Internet Access. The high-speed internet is always on and does not require dial-up access over the lower bit rate modems to access the internet. The speed of the Broadband internet is very fast and has the download speeds greater than 256kbps. The bandwidth of the ISP (Internet Service Providers) is shared commonly between the users.
TYPES OF HIGH SPEED SERVICES
The Broadband internet services are usually classified as three types as the cable modem, the DSL/ADSL and the satellite. The features of these modems are given below.
* The cable modem is the data conversion equipment which usually connects the cable television and the computer. It actually has two equipments as the cable modem in the customer end and the CMTS (Cable modem Termination System) at the provider end. * DSL-Digital Subscriber Line and ADSL-Asymmetric DSL are the modems which provide the high speed internet via the local telephone copper lines. The speed of the date transfer is very high than the dial-up modems. * Satellite service provides the effective transfer of various data like audio, video, fax, and the internet. The satellite service also provides the option of low cost calls by using the voice over internet protocols. SAVES INTERNET SUBSCRIPTIONS The Broadband internet is provided to the customers with a monthly subscription slightly greater than the dial-up internet subscription. The dial-up modem provides a low speed of downloads with the frequent disconnection. It also has the disadvantage of not using the telephone and internet simultaneously. The subscription for the high speed internet saves money by providing the faster downloads and reduces the call timings. It provides the free downloads and the anti virus soft wares to its monthly subscribers. BENEFITS OF THE HIGH SPEED INTERNET The Broadband internet has number of benefits like faster speed and faster downloads. The connection is always on and the user can access the net throughout the day. It does not disconnect the link frequently and there is no break in the communication. It provides the simultaneous access of both the telephone and data line. These channels are used to transfer the voice traffic and the data traffic. Since the Broadband is designed for the multiple user accessibility, it enables to use an account for many users. Considering the disadvantages, the continuous working in the net will makes the computer vulnerable to the spam, virus and the hackers to hack the programs. INTERNET ROUTERS To connect the network of the Broadband internet, every computer must be routed via the Router. The router connects the networks and allows the user to use the connection easily. The network in the router may be of both wired/wireless depending upon the network used in the work area. The Routers are provided with the firewalls to avoid the hackers and virus threats to the user computers. Thus the Broadband internet provides the way for the next generation of communication via internet.
